House System
Following enrollment, and as part of the Student Well being structure at TPS, each student is allocated to one of Six Houses. The House community provides a lively and exciting element to each student’s life beyond the classroom.
Each House has a teacher House Patron who mentors and guides the House Captain. Child is supported by the Sport Vice Captain, Cultural Vice Captain and House Administrator. The House Captain represents the School on official occasions and is expected to be a positive role model for other students. Together with the Vice Captains and Administrator, the House Captain fosters House spirit and oversees House activities, including the annual competitions and House sporting events.
The Six houses at TPS have been named after Indian Scientists who changed the world for better:
House A.P.J. Abdul Kalam (Green)
Abul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, born on October 15, 1931 is an Indian scientist who worked as an Aerospace engineer with Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
He served as the 11th President of Republic of India from 2002 to 2007. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor. Known for his love for children, Dr. Kalam had set a goal of meeting 100,000 students in the 2 years after his resignation from the role of Scientific Adviser in 1999. He is an inspiration to whole nation may he inspires our students as well, in that hope we have named our house after his name.

House Rabindranath Tagore (Blue)
Rabindranath Tagore is best known as a poet but he was a man of many talents. He was the first Indian to win a Nobel for literature. He was a philosopher and educationist who established a university that challenged conventional education. Where he wanted humanity to be studied “somewhere beyond the limits of nation and geography”. Here, many classes are still held under trees in open fields.
Tagore was a painter who played an important role in modernizing Bengali art. And he was a nationalist who gave up his knighthood to protest British policies in colonial India after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
He wrote national anthems of India and Bangladesh. His student Ananda Samarakoon, translated the lyrics of Nama Nama Sri Lanka Mata from Bengali to Sinhalese. Tagore is thus the only person to have composed the national anthems of three countries.

House Subhash Chandra Bose (Red)
Subhash Chandra Bose was born on 23 January, 1897 in Cuttack (Orissa). He was a very intelligent and sincere student. He passed his B.A. in Philosophy from the Presidency College in Calcutta. He was strongly influenced by Swami Vivekananda’s teachings and was known for his patriotic zeal as a student.
Subhash Chandra Bose was one of India’s greatest freedom fighter. He revived the Indian National Army, popularly known as ‘Azad Hind Fauj’ in 1943 which was initially formed in 1942 by Rash Behari Bose. INA had a separate women’s unit, the Rani of Jhansi Regiment (named after Rani Lakshmi Bai) headed by Capt. Lakshmi Swaminathan, which is seen as a first of its kind in Asia.
Netaji’s great contribution in freedom fight is one reason but we also got a mighty institution in form of Indian National Army. His brave and bold actions will remain inspiring for our Nation and our Students.

House Swami Vivekanand (Yellow)
Swami Vivekananda, known in his pre-monastic life as Narendra Nath Datta, was born in an affluent family in Kolkata on 12 January 1863. A precocious boy, Narendra excelled in music, gymnastics and studies. By the time he graduated from Calcutta University, he had acquired a vast knowledge of different subjects, especially Western philosophy and history. Born with a yogic temperament, he used to practice meditation even from his boyhood.
He founded on 1 May 1897 a unique type of organization known as Ramakrishna Mission, in which monks and lay people would jointly undertake propagation of Practical Vedanta, and various forms of social service, such as running hospitals, schools, colleges, hostels, rural development centers etc, and conducting massive relief and rehabilitation work for victims of earthquakes, cyclones and other calamities, in different parts of India and other countries.
His life is full of teaching. There is no better lesson about patriotism and leadership one can learn from, is the reason our yellow house is named after swami Vivekanand.

House Kalpana Chawla (Orange)
Kalpana Chawla, an Indian-American astronaut and the first Indian woman in space, was one of the seven astronauts who lost their lives in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster on February 1, 2003. A role model for many young women in India and around the world, Kalpana will always be remembered for her incredible journey from Karnal, where she was born, to NASA, where she fulfilled her dream of reaching the starts.
In 1997, she became the first Indian-born woman and the second Indian person to fly in space.In 2000, Kalpana was selected for her second flight as a part of the crew of STS-107. The mission got repeatedly delayed and was finally launched in 2003. On February 1, 2003, the space shuttle disintegrated over Texas while trying to re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere. Over the course of the 16-day flight, the crew completed more than 80 experiments.
She was posthumously honoured with the Congressional Space Medal of Honor, NASA Space Flight Medal and NASA Distinguished Service Medal.
Our House Orange is named after this tall personality who made our nation proud universally, with the hope more and more students gets inspiration from her.

House Mahadevi Varma (Violet)
Mahadevi Varma is a well known Hindi poet, she is more often called the modern Meera, who achieved the Jnanpith award in the year 1982. Mahadevi was born in the family of lawyers in 1907 in Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh. She completed her initial education in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh and pursued masters in Sanskrit from Allahabad University.
Mahadevi Varma is one amongst the other major poets of the Chhayavaadi school of the Hindi literature. She is the epitome of child prodigy. Not only she wrote fabulous poetry, but also made sketches for her poetic works such as Deepshikha and Yatra. Deepshikha is one of the best works of Mahadevi Varma.
With the hope to bring back and introduce the glorious work by Mahadevi Varma to our young impressionable minds, we named House Violet after Mahadevi Varma.
